Restrictions and Terms of Use

The Court’s Policy on Use of Electronic Devices in Courtrooms generally prohibits taking photographs (including screen shots), video images, or audio recordings of any court proceeding including video conferences and webcast proceedings.

To facilitate public access, the Court may provide a link to a web based platform (e.g. Zoom, YouTube or Vimeo) to view a live broadcast (or an archived recording) of a proceeding taking place in person or by video conference.

Use of the live broadcast (or recording) provided by the Court for any purpose other than personal viewing must conform to the following restrictions:

1.
You may not broadcast, rebroadcast, transmit, reproduce, communicate or otherwise make the live broadcast (or recording) provided by the Court available in whole, or in part, in any form, or by any means, or store it on any information storage retrieval system, without prior written authorization of the Registrar of the Court of Appeal. To contact the Registrar please email Video.Conference.Appeals@bccourts.ca.

2.
For greater clarity, the above restriction means that you are not permitted to directly share or embed the link to a live broadcast (or recording) of a court proceeding in a post on any social media platform (e.g. Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook etc.). You are permitted to share a link to the Court of Appeal webpage where the public link to the live broadcast (or recording) of a video conference proceeding can be accessed.

3.
The only exception to the restrictions outlined above is that accredited media may use a recording of a court proceeding provided by the Court for the purpose of reporting on the subject of the proceeding in a manner that is balanced and fair to the parties to the appeal in news and public affairs broadcasts.
