Family Practice Directions

A Divorce Act proceeding may be conducted in the English language, French language, or in both official languages of Canada. The official language provisions set out in section 23.2 of the Divorce Act came into effect in British Columbia on December 1, 2024. More information on official language rights is set out in an information sheet prepared by the Department of Justice entitled “Official Language Rights under the Divorce Act”, which is available here (in English) and here (in French).
