Strategic Plan
In early 2025, the Court of Appeal began to develop a Strategic Plan. The intent was to better articulate and communicate the Court's goals publicly. After reflection and consultation, the Court has now finalized and approved its Strategic Plan.
The Strategic Plan addresses five main areas:
- Access to justice — The Court will work to improve access to justice through a variety of means, including technology and innovation.
- Reconciliation — Guided by the Court's Reconciliation Framework, the Court will work to advance reconciliation in all its work, including through education, relationship-building, and improving access to justice for Indigenous people.
- Communication, public education and outreach — Guided by the Court's Framework for Engagement, the Court will share clear, timely information with the public, the media, and court users about its work.
- Sustainable resources — The Court will engage effectively with the executive branches of government to pursue adequate resourcing and improve the Court's data collection and use.
- Strong Workforce — The Court will work to maintain an inclusive workforce, manage workloads, foster collegiality, and promote learning opportunities.
Each of these goals will be supported by operational action items. The Strategic Plan covers 2026 to 2028 and is renewable for an additional two years to 2030.
The Court has adopted this Strategic Plan to help the Court achieve its goals. The Plan will guide the Court’s work and support the pursuit and allocation of resources. Although just one part of a larger justice system with many independent actors, the Court’s aim is to improve its practices and processes to make the system work better for everyone.
