The Court of Appeal is the highest court in the province. It hears appeals from the Supreme Court, from the Provincial Court on some criminal matters, and reviews and appeals from some administrative boards and tribunals.
The Court of Appeal is constituted by the Court of Appeal Act, S.B.C. 2021, c. 6. The Court of Appeal Act provides for a Chief Justice and 14 other justices, as well as for supernumerary justices. Thus, the Court of Appeal actually has more than 15 judges. The Chief Justice of British Columbia heads the Court of Appeal.
The Court of Appeal has a registrar who, in addition to other administrative duties, hears matters related to the settling of orders and bills of costs.

IN MEMORIAM: THE HONOURABLE PETER VOITH
It is with sadness that we acknowledge the passing of the Honourable Peter Voith, former member of the Court of Appeal for British Columbia and the Court of Appeal of Yukon. Peter was appointed to the BC Supreme Court on January 22, 2009 and to the Court of Appeal on September 9, 2020 where he served until his retirement on February 21, 2025. He approached his time on the bench with humility, often speaking with open admiration for the gifts of others. He strove each day to bring what he recognized in others to his own work. There is no doubt that Justice Voith made remarkable contributions to the legal profession and to the public over the course of a rich and fulfilling career. He has also treasured his two children, Jordan and Erin, and his dear wife Marianne Dobslaw whom he met in the later part of his career. The Court extends its deepest condolences to those affected by this loss.
