EXTRADITION MODEL ORDER FOR BAIL PENDING COMMITTAL ORDER

The Registrar of the Court has issued a Practice Note relating to Extradition Bail orders. The model order, which is in the discretion of a judge, provides a procedure for the continuation of bail without another appearance once a committal order is entered.

CONSULTATION PAPER ON E-FILING CIVIL AND CRIMINAL FACTUMS AND CRIMINAL STATEMENTS

The Court of Appeal is seeking input from the profession, the public and filing agents on a proposal to require mandatory e-filing of civil and criminal factums and criminal statements by January, 2016. E-filing of factums will not be required for self-represented litigants. The changes to the filing procedure and the requirements are outlined in the consultation paper, found on the Court's website. Comments may be submitted to FactumConsultation@courts.gov.bc.ca by April 30, 2014. Any comments received may be used anonymously in a public report.

REVISED PRACTICE DIRECTIVE - TIMELINE FOR CRIMINAL CONVICTION/ACQUITTAL APPEALS

The Pilot Project for Criminal Appeals concluded December 31, 2013. This revised Practice Directive preserves the timelines set out in the Pilot Project and introduces some minor changes to the way criminal conviction/acquittal appeals are monitored by the Court.
