The deadline for applications is Friday, January 24, 2014 at 4:30 pm, with interviews to be scheduled throughout February and March, 2014. The British Columbia Supreme Court welcomes the appointment of the Honourable Christopher E. Hinkson, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of British Columbia. The appointment is effective immediately. For further information, please see the announcement from the Prime Minister of Canada.

PRACTICE DIRECTION - 43 - CIVIL MARRIAGE ACT - DIVORCE PROCEDURES - OCTOBER 28, 2013

Associate Chief Justice Cullen issued Practice Direction - 43: Civil Marriage Act- Procedures for Divorce which will take effect on Monday, October 28, 2013.

PD-43 sets out the procedural requirements for a non-resident same sex couple who married in British Columbia, to obtain a divorce under the Civil Marriage Act. Part 2 of the Civil Marriage Act sets out the substantive requirements for a divorce. PD-43 establishes a desk order process.Â The Divorce Act and provisions for corollary relief do not apply, nor can a proceeding for relief under the Family Law Act be joined with a desk application for divorce under the Civil Marriage Act.
